St. Joseph’s/Candler Urgent Care Offers Veterans a Faster Urgent Care Option

Jun 14, 2019

U.S. Veterans no longer have to book an appointment at a VA facility for minor medical conditions. They can simply walk into a St. Joseph’s/Candler Urgent Care location and be seen immediately.

Under the new Veterans Affairs Department's Mission Act, the locations will now be able to treat veterans on a walk-in basis. No appointment is ever necessary.

Minor medical conditions include, but are not limited to: flu-like symptoms, strep throat, minor burns, pink eye, ear/skin infections, x-rays, lab testing and medications.

“It’s an honor to serve those who’ve bravely served this country,” said Dr. Stephen Pohl, Medical Director of St. Joseph’s/Candler Urgent Care. “I look forward to being able to offer vets quick, easy, and convenient access to quality medical care.”

HOW IT WORKS: Veterans can arrive at St. Joseph’s/Candler Urgent Care and simply let the clinic know they would like to use their VA Urgent Care benefits.

The clinic will then confirm Veteran eligibility before providing care.  Before the new law took effect, the VA would pay for private care only when veterans had to drive more than 40 miles or wait more than 30 days for a VA appointment.

St. Joseph’s/Candler Urgent Care operates 7 days a week.
