OB/GYNA Savannah native born at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dr. Andres Montes graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Georgia Southern University Honors Program with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and a minor in Chemistry. While in college, he co-founded and served as CEO of The Hearts and Hands Clinic, a free healthcare clinic for medically uninsured individuals from Bulloch County. The clinic is still in operation today. Dr. Montes earned his Medical Degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. During medical school, he was inducted into the prestigious Gold Humanism Honor Society, which honors physicians who achieve humanistic care.
Dr. Montes went on to complete his residency training in OB/GYN, including serving as chief resident, at University of Virginia Medical Center. During residency training, Dr. Montes received numerous awards. These awards included medical student teaching awards, as well as the “Outstanding Minimally Invasive Surgery Resident” in each of his last two years of residency training. Also during residency training, the department of Gynecology at UVA was ranked among the top 50 in the nation by US News & World Report, and Newsweek recognized UVA on its Best Maternity Hospitals 2021 list.
Dr. Montes is excited to practice at St. Joseph’s/Candler with Dr. Andrew Trucker, utilizing his experience in caring for high-risk obstetrical patients and extensive skills in minimally-invasive surgery and gyn robotic surgery to serve the community he grew up in.
