da Vinci General Surgery
When surgery is recommended by your general surgeon, a minimal invasive option may be available. Some patients may qualify for robotic surgery for some conditions. General surgeons trained in robotic surgery can now perform a variety of procedures using the da Vinci surgical system offering patients a faster, less painful recovery. General robotic procedures include but are not limited to:
- Cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder)
- Nissen Fundoplication (surgical treatment for reflux and hiatal hernia)
- Hernia repairs
- Colon resections
- Nephrectomy or kidney removal
Surgeons at St. Joseph’s/Candler will soon be performing single site procedures to remove the gall bladder. Most da Vinci or traditional laparoscopic surgeries use multiple “ports” or incisions for the instruments.
Single-site robotic surgery requires only one incision. Surgeons can enter through the belly button to remove the gall bladder. This leaves virtually no scar at all, a cosmetically appealing result.
