Cutting Edge Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) Technology Redefines Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
A relatively new procedure, the Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) is quickly becoming a preferred alternative to traditional methods of lung and chest diagnosis. The use of EBUS in patients provides physicians with a clearer picture of chest health with a minimally invasive approach. Because lung cancer requires different treatments during different stages of the disease, it is imperative the physician know which treatment will be most effective for your individual case. The EBUS system makes this possible without subjecting the patient to unnecessary surgical procedures.
What Can I Expect During an EBUS session?
EBUS is performed during a bronchoscopy, a routine test used for lung diagnosis. Your physician will guide a small tube through your mouth or nose and into your lungs. A specially designed ultrasound probe is then inserted into the tube, where it can feed information about your lungs and chest to the physician. Abnormalities like enlarged lymph nodes, tumors, irregular growths and infections can be easily spotted through these readings and therefore treated with greater accuracy.
