St. Joseph's/Candler's policy on ethical issues

As part of our holistic care, St. Joseph’s/Candler provides the assistance of a bioethicist in clinical cases where an ethical issue must be resolved.  A trained, certified bioethicist is available to review the case, identify the ethical issues, provide information and outline options for patients and families.  Working with the patient, family and the interdisciplinary team caring for the patient, the ethicist provides assistance in decision making based on sound moral principles.

An interdisciplinary Ethics Committee is available to extend individual expertise on cases where consultation is needed.  This committee meets formally each month and as needed.
